Motel AW11 Interview

Motel has developed into a cult brand for young women who are fed up with the dreary and lacklustre High Street styles. Motel offer an eclectic mix of punk, a touch of Asia, and retro to offer a fun-filled collection of killer styles. Motel were kind enough to discuss their new Autumn collection.

Where did the inspiration come from for the new AW11 collection?

Colour blocking is a big trend, we took inspiration from Modrian art, and the solid block colours from the catwalks. Androgynous styles are also a big trend for AW and we have some amazing sheer shirt dresses, coloured denim and tailored coats. 70s style comes in September with chunky knits and paisley print dresses. A Japanese theme is also present – with two new floral prints including the just released Cherry Blossom print.

Is there one stand-out dress in the new range?

The Ozlem Dress is the showstopper dress for this season – in multi colour block, with a bodycon style it’s reminiscent of Modrian prints and perfect with some killer black wedges.

Does the new collection have any surprises?

As a brand known for feminine shapes this season we’ve gone out of our comfort zone and created a more androgynous collection ‘Girls Who Like Boys’ to be released in two weeks. Think sheer shirt dresses, tailored trousers and crop sweaters. We’ll be wearing ours with heels and plenty of red lipstick for a feminine twist.
