Behind The Brand Olivia Rubin

Category : Interviews

Olivia Rubin graduated from the world-renowned Central Saint Martins College in London and is now in her seventh season. We caught up with Olivia and she was kind enough to answer these questions about her journey so far in the world of fashion.

1) How did Olivia Rubin first come about?

I entered the national Fashion Fringe competition when I graduated from CSM and I got into the final stages where I met an array of fashion elite-they helped me show at LFW and the brand grew from there. I knew I always wanted to start my own brand and this seemed like an opportunity to seize!

2) Who are Olivia Rubin’s target audience?

The Olivia Rubin customer has definitely evolved over the years. I’d say the women the brand attracts is an independent, confident woman who like to experiment with fashion and is not afraid of colour and print in her wardrobe.

3) Is there a signature Olivia Rubin style?

The brand is about creating a simple yet feminine silhouette for an array of bold and individual prints. Contemporary chic sums up the style perfectly!

4) Where do you get your inspirations from when designing a new collection?

It is a natural process and doesn’t take too much forced thinking. I am always thinking of new ideas and absorbing my surroundings so by the time a new season comes around I have a few key ideas I want to start exploring. Whether it be an image in a magazine, a piece of art or even a stranger in the street inspiration comes from all parts of everyday life.

5) Which are the stand-out dresses from the new collection?

Our dresses are always key for us. From AW11 my personal favourites are the Cheryl-I’m loving the new midi length and the colourful leopard print on a black backdrop makes it a sophisticated cocktail classic. The Nicola is another strong party piece-the contrast in fabric is a strong look and the monochrome print makes it easy option for those customers who may be a bit tamer with their colour palettes.

6) Finally what three words describe Olivia Rubin?

Modern, unique, feminine.
